Ludwig Alexander Alfred Theodor Freiherr von Dalwig (born December 19, 1800 in Tarnowitz , † September 6, 1866 in Koethen ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the 17th Infantry Brigade .

Life

Ludwig was the son of the Prussian major general Georg Ludwig Friedrich von Dalwig (1762-1832) and his second wife Charlotte, born von Gaffron (1779-1804).

Military career

Dalwig visited the Berlin cadet school and was on 19 April 1817 second lieutenant of the 2nd Guards Regiment walk the Prussian Army transferred. From April 11, 1850, he was employed as a battalion commander in the 40th Infantry Regiment and on March 22, 1853, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel . On May 8, 1856, Dalwig was placed in command of Stralsund and at the end of June 1856, à la suite of his previous regiment. He was promoted to colonel in mid-October 1856 , became commander of the 12th Infantry Regiment on May 7, 1857, and was awarded the Order of St. Anne II. Class in this position at the end of October 1857 . Dalwig was promoted to major general on May 31, 1859 and transferred to Glogau on June 3, 1859 as commander of the 17th Infantry Brigade . With the award of the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves, he was put up for disposal on September 14, 1860 with a pension . He died on September 6, 1866 in Köthen and was buried there on September 8, 1866.

The commander of the training infantry battalion Friedrich von Waldersee wrote in his assessment in 1847: “An officer who is highly excellent in every respect, who combines excellent skills and good knowledge with a quick overview of all conditions and a real military sense. The company he led excels in all branches of service, and by virtue of his practical skill, his calm security and his gift he knew how to keep the good will of the soldiers active, and to his energies brought in at the right time that favorable result without using the forces of the teams too much. Even with subordinate officers, he knows how to maintain his full authority in service with a comradely tone in social interactions. He will therefore not only become an excellent battalion commander in the Landwehr as well as in the line, but one day he will also qualify for higher conditions and is highly recommended for promotion apart from the tour. "

family

He married Auguste von Schweinitz (1818–1898), daughter of the Prussian major general Ernst von Schweinitz , on July 17, 1834 in Saarlouis . The couple had several children:
