Luigi Vari (born March 2, 1957 in Segni ) is an Italian clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Gaeta .

Life

Luigi Vari received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Velletri on September 13, 1980 through Bishop Dante Bernini . He then went to the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome for further studies , where he obtained a licentiate in biblical studies . In 1983 he became a chaplain at the Church of Santa Maria in Trivio . From 1987 he was diocesan assistant of the Catholic Action and spiritual assistant to the youth of the Catholic Action in the church region of Latium . From 1991 until his appointment as Archbishop he was pastor of the parish of Santa Maria Maggiore in Valmontone . Between 1998 and 1999 he completed a doctorate at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas and was with a thesis on 2010 Lk 6.36 to 50  EU for Doctor of theology doctorate .

From 1983 to 1991 he worked as a religion teacher and had been a member of the priestly council of his home diocese since 1983 . Since 1985 he has been a lecturer and since 2002 associate professor at the Leonianum Theological Institute in Anagni , which is affiliated with the Pontifical Faculty of Teresianum , and became its director in 2010. From 1999 to 2002 he was also a lecturer in the New Testament at the Institute for Religious Studies all'Apollinare of the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross .

Since 1995 he was Episcopal Vicar for pastoral care and from 2006 to 2008 he was also head of the Episcopal Education Office and responsible for the Catholic religion teachers in the diocese of Velletri-Segni. In February 2003, Pope John Paul II awarded him the honorary title of Chaplain to His Holiness ( Monsignor ).

Pope Francis appointed him Archbishop of Gaeta on April 21, 2016 . He was ordained episcopate on June 21 of the same year by the Bishop of Velletri-Segni, Vincenzo Apicella . Co- consecrators were his predecessor Bernardo Fabio D'Onorio OSB and the Bishop of Anagni-Alatri , Lorenzo Loppa . The inauguration in the Archdiocese of Gaeta took place on July 9, 2016.
