Bernardo Fabio D'Onorio OSB (born August 20, 1940 in Veroli , bourgeois Fabio D'Onorio) is an Italian Benedictine monk and emeritus Archbishop of Gaeta .

Life

Bernardo Fabio D'Onorio entered the Benedictine Archabbey of Montecassino, made his profession on September 30, 1962 and was ordained a priest on June 4, 1966 . He was elected Abbot of Montecassino on April 25, 1983 , and Pope John Paul II confirmed the election on June 19 of the same year.

The Pope appointed him titular bishop of Minturnae on April 13, 2004 . As a motto he chose Nihil amori Christi praeponere . He was ordained episcopal by the Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for Bishops and President of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America , Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re , on May 16 of the same year; Co - consecrators were Archbishop Francesco Pio Tamburrino OSB, Archbishop of Foggia-Bovino , and Imre Asztrik Várszegi OSB, Archabbot of Pannonhalma . Benedict XVI. appointed him Archbishop of Gaeta on September 20, 2007 .

On April 21, 2016, Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation.
