Lycium texanum is a plant type from the genus of Lycium ( Lycium ) in the family of the nightshade family (Solanaceae).

description

Lycium texanum is a highly branched, with spines occupied shrub . Its leaves are up to 20 mm long and 30 mm wide. They are short, stiff-haired.

The flowers are hermaphroditic and four or five-fold. The calyx is cup-shaped, the calyx tube is 1.5 to 3 mm long. The crown is splayed, lavender and fading to white. The corolla tube is 7 to 8 mm long and covered with 1.5 to 2.5 mm long corolla lobes. The stamens are hairy with a few scattered trichomes .

The fruit is an orange-red, egg-shaped or elliptical berry that reaches a length of 3 to 8 mm. It contains a multitude of seeds .

Occurrence

The species is widespread in North America and occurs there in the US state of Texas .

Systematics

Within the box thorn ( Lycium ) the species is grouped according to phylogenetic studies in a clade with other North and South American species of the genus. The species is closely related to Lycium americanum , Lycium infaustum , Lycium exsertum , Lycium Fremontii , Lycium parishii , Lycium torreyi , Lycium berlandieri , Lycium andersonii , Lycium elongatum , Lycium athium and Lycium minimum .
