Lycium berlandieri is a plant type from the genus of Lycium ( Lycium ) in the family of the nightshade family (Solanaceae).
description
Lycium berlandieri is a 0.7 to 2.5 m high, sparsely branched shrub . Its leaves are hairless, 1 to 2.5 mm long and 1.5 to 6 mm wide.
The flowers are hermaphroditic and four or five-fold. The calyx is cup-shaped, the calyx tube is 1 to 3 mm long, the length of the calyx lobes corresponds to about 1/3 of the length of the calyx tube. The tips of the calyx tips are covered with a small tuft of hair. The crown is white or pale lavender in color and is inverted conical-funnel-shaped. The length of the corolla tube is 4 to 9 mm, the length of the corolla lobes corresponds to 1/6 to 1/3 of the length of the corolla tube. The stamens are densely hairy in the lower third of the free-standing part.
The fruit is a spherical berry with a diameter of 5 mm. It contains a multitude of seeds .
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 36.
Occurrence
The species is distributed in North America and occurs there in the Mexican states of Baja California Sur , Sonora , Sinaloa , Chihuahua , Durango , Coahuila , Tamaulipas , Hidalgo , Nuevo León and San Luis Potosí , as well as in the US states of Arizona , New Mexico and Texas before.

External system
Within the box thorn ( Lycium ) the species is grouped according to phylogenetic studies in a clade with other North and South American species of the genus. The species is closely related to Lycium americanum , Lycium infaustum , Lycium exsertum , Lycium Fremontii , Lycium parishii , Lycium texanum , Lycium torreyi , Lycium andersonii , Lycium elongatum , Lycium athium and Lycium minimum .
