description

Branches and leaves

Lycium berlandieri is a 0.7 to 2.5 m high, sparsely branched shrub . Its leaves are hairless, 1 to 2.5 mm long and 1.5 to 6 mm wide.

The flowers are hermaphroditic and four or five-fold. The calyx is cup-shaped, the calyx tube is 1 to 3 mm long, the length of the calyx lobes corresponds to about 1/3 of the length of the calyx tube. The tips of the calyx tips are covered with a small tuft of hair. The crown is white or pale lavender in color and is inverted conical-funnel-shaped. The length of the corolla tube is 4 to 9 mm, the length of the corolla lobes corresponds to 1/6 to 1/3 of the length of the corolla tube. The stamens are densely hairy in the lower third of the free-standing part.

The fruit is a spherical berry with a diameter of 5 mm. It contains a multitude of seeds .

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 36.
