Lycium infaustum is a plant type from the genus of Lycium ( Lycium ) in the family of the nightshade family (Solanaceae).
description
Lycium infaustum is an upright, 0.6 to 1.8 m high shrub . Its leaves are hairless, 2 to 15 mm long and 0.5 to 1.5 mm wide.
The flowers are hermaphroditic, usually five-fold, rarely six-fold. The calyx is cup-shaped and hairy with a few trichomes . The calyx tube is 2 to 4 mm long and covered with 0.5 to 2 mm long calyx teeth. The crown is spreading and colored purple-white. The corolla tube becomes 5 to 10 mm long, the corolla lobes 2 to 4 mm. The stamens are hairy at the base in the lower area to 1 to 2 mm.
The fruit is a red or dark purple, spherical berry with a length of 4 to 5 mm and a width of 3 to 4 mm. Three to 15 seeds are formed per carpel .
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.
Occurrence
The species is widespread in South America and occurs there in Argentina in the provinces of Buenos Aires , Catamarca , Córdoba , La Pampa , La Rioja , Mendoza , Salta , San Juan , San Luis , Santa Fe , Santiago del Estero and Tucumán .
Systematics
Within the box thorn ( Lycium ) the species is grouped according to phylogenetic studies in a clade with other North and South American species of the genus. The species is closely related to Lycium americanum , Lycium exsertum , Lycium Fremontii , Lycium parishii , Lycium texanum , Lycium torreyi , Lycium berlandieri , Lycium andersonii , Lycium elongatum , Lycium athium and Lycium minimum .
