Lycium parishii is a plant type from the genus of Lycium ( Lycium ) in the family of the nightshade family (Solanaceae).

description

Lycium parishii is a 1 to 3.5 m high, multi-branched shrub that is studded with spines . Its leaves are densely hairy and 3 to 12 mm long and 1 to 5 mm wide.

The flowers are hermaphroditic and five-fold. The calyx is bell-shaped and densely hairy. The calyx tube reaches a length of 2 to 3 mm, the calyx lobes are half as long to longer than the calyx tube. The crown is egg-shaped and colored pale lavender with darker markings. The corolla tube is 6 to 10 mm long and is covered with 2 to 3.5 mm long corolla lobes. The anthers are densely tomentose in the lower quarter of the free-standing area.

The fruit is an egg-shaped, red berry with a length of 4 to 7 mm and a width of 3 to 5 mm. It contains seven to 15 seeds .

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.

Occurrence

The species is widespread in North America , where it occurs in the Mexican states of Baja California , Coahuila , Nuevo León , San Luis Potosí and Sonora , as well as in the US states of Arizona and California .

Within the box thorn ( Lycium ) the species is grouped according to phylogenetic studies in a clade with other North and South American species of the genus. The species is closely related to Lycium americanum , Lycium infaustum , Lycium exsertum , Lycium Fremontii , Lycium texanum , Lycium torreyi , Lycium berlandieri , Lycium andersonii , Lycium elongatum , Lycium athium and Lycium minimum .
