description
Lycium andersonii is a 0.5 to 3 m high, densely branched, with spines occupied shrub . Its leaves are succulent , hairless or densely covered with short trichomes . Their length is 3 to 35 mm, their width 1 to 8 mm.
The flowers are hermaphroditic, four or five-fold and ovoid. The calyx is cup-shaped, hairless or densely covered with short trichomes and about 1.5 to 3 mm long. The length of the calyx lobes corresponds to about 1/4 of the length of the calyx tube. The crown is white to pale purple in color, the length of the corolla tube is 4 to 16 mm, the corolla lobes attached to it are 1.5 to 2 mm long. The stamens are sparsely hairy or hairless at the base.
The fruit is an egg-shaped to elliptical, red or orange-red berry with a length of 3 to 9 mm. It contains a multitude of seeds .
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.
Occurrence
The species is distributed in North America and occurs there in the Mexican states of Baja California , Baja California Sur , Sinaloa and Sonora as well as in the US states of Arizona , California , Nevada and Utah .
