Lycium elongatum is a plant type from the genus of Lycium ( Lycium ) in the family of the nightshade family (Solanaceae).

description

Lycium elongatum is an upright shrub that reaches heights of 0.7 to 2.5 m. Its leaves are hairless and 2.5 to 30 mm long and 0.5 to 3 mm wide.

The flowers are hermaphroditic and usually five-fold, rarely six-fold. The calyx is tubular and hairless to fine downy hairy. The calyx tube reaches a length of 1.8 to 3 mm and is covered with 1 to 3 mm long calyx teeth. The crown is tubular and purple-purple in color. The corolla tube is 8 to 10 mm long, the corolla lobes reach a length of 2 to 3 mm. The stamens have a few isolated trichomes at their base.

The fruit is a red, dark purple or orange, egg-shaped berry with a length of 4 to 6 mm and a width of 3 to 4 mm. Eight to 15 seeds are formed per carpel .

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.

Occurrence

The species is widespread in South America and occurs there in Argentina in the provinces of Catamarca , Córdoba , La Rioja , Mendoza , San Juan , San Luis , Santiago del Estero and Tucumán .

Systematics

Within the box thorn ( Lycium ) the species is grouped according to phylogenetic studies in a clade with other North and South American species of the genus. The species is closely related to Lycium americanum , Lycium infaustum , Lycium exsertum , Lycium Fremontii , Lycium parishii , Lycium texanum , Lycium torreyi , Lycium berlandieri , Lycium andersonii , Lycium athium and Lycium minimum .
