Lycium torreyi is a plant type from the genus of Lycium ( Lycium ) in the family of the nightshade family (Solanaceae).
description
Lycium torreyi is a 1 to 3 m high, branched and spreading shrub . The leaves are slightly succulent , 10 to 13 mm long and 3 to 10 mm wide.
The flowers are hermaphroditic and four or five-fold. The calyx is cup-shaped or tubular and hairless or only sparsely hairy. The calyx tube reaches a length of 2.5 to 6 mm. The length of the calyx lobes corresponds to 1/4 to half the length of the calyx tube. The crown is spread and colored greenish-lavender or whitish. The corolla tube is 8 to 15 mm long, the length of the corolla lobes is 2 to 4 mm. The stamens are dense to sparsely hairy in an approximately 1.5 mm area at the base of the free-standing part.
The fruit is a bright red, egg-shaped berry that reaches a length of 6 to 12 mm. It contains eight to 30 seeds .
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.
Occurrence
The species is distributed in North America , where it occurs in the US states of Texas , Utah , Nevada , California , Arizona and New Mexico , as well as in the Mexican state of Chihuahua .
Systematics
Within the box thorn ( Lycium ) the species is grouped according to phylogenetic studies in a clade with other North and South American species of the genus. The species is closely related to Lycium americanum , Lycium infaustum , Lycium exsertum , Lycium Fremontii , Lycium parishii , Lycium texanum , Lycium berlandieri , Lycium andersonii , Lycium elongatum , Lycium athium and Lycium minimum .
