Mézidon-Canon is a former French commune with a last 4945 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2013), which is located in the Calvados department and in the Normandy region . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Lisieux and the Canton of Mézidon-Canon .

location

Mézidon-Canon lay between the Dives and Laizon rivers , about equidistant from Cabourg in the north, Caen in the north-west, Falaise in the south and Lisieux in the north-east.

history

The municipality of Mézidon-Canon was created on September 9, 1972 through the merger of the previously independent municipalities of Mézidon and Canon.

It was established on January 1, 2017 with 13 other municipalities, namely Les Authieux-Papion , Crèvecœur-en-Auge , Croissanville , Grandchamp-le-Château , Lécaude , Magny-la-Campagne , Magny-le-Freule , Le Mesnil-Mauger , Coupesarte , Monteille , Percy-en-Auge , Saint-Julien-le-Faucon and Vieux-Fumé have merged to form the new municipality of Mézidon Vallée d'Auge .

Mayor ( Maire ) was François Aubey since 1995. He was re-elected for the 2008–2014 term. The community was a member of the Communauté de communes de la Vallée d'Auge .

Economy and Infrastructure

Mézidon-Canon was about 25 km southeast of Caen on the D47 departmental road. The distance to Lisieux is approx. 28 km to the northeast. In Mézidon-Canon there is a train station on the Caen - Lisieux line, the junction towards Argentan is located here .

Attractions

Canon Castle was built in the 18th century. There is also a castle in the Breuil district that dates back to the 17th century and the area around it is known as the Parc et jardins du Château de Canon .
