Urban district District 8

Mühlebach is a district in the city of Zurich in District 8 (Riesbach) .

It encompasses a narrow strip between Seefeldstrasse and Zollikerstrasse and borders the Seefeld districts in the west, Weinegg in the east, universities and Hottingen in the north and the municipality of Zollikon in the south. With an area of 0.63 km², it is one of the smallest districts in the city of Zurich.

The quarter was created in 1971 when District 8 was divided into three parts: Seefeld, Mühlebach and Weinegg. For the most part, it has only one statistical significance: the area in the center of District 8 is usually colloquially assigned to the Seefeld district or simply referred to as Riesbach .

Eponymous for mill stream was the heart through the quarter and parallel to the shore of Lake Zurich extending Mühlebachstrasse and named after him Mühlebachstrasse . The Mühlebach ran above ground until 1870 and underground until 1935 from the torrent  to the Stadelhofen mill , which was mentioned in a document as early as the 10th century. Since the Middle Ages, the course of the artificially created canal has roughly corresponded to that of the street.

Mühlebach is relatively densely populated and has a quiet character.
