Hirzenbach is a district in the north of the Swiss city of Zurich . With the districts Schwamendingen-Mitte and Saatlen , Hirzenbach forms urban district 12 (Schwamendingen) .

According to the Zurich Statistical Office, Hirzenbach is forecasting strong growth from 11,900 inhabitants in 2017 to 18,600 inhabitants in 2030.

history

Hirzenbach was very sparsely populated until the 1940s, mainly because of the swampy soil. Due to the amelioration of the soil and the shortage of housing in the city center, a major construction boom set in from 1950, which was completed at the end of the 1960s. Above all, smaller and cheap cooperative apartments are in the Hirzenbach district. There is hardly any industry or trade in Hirzenbach.

Local division

In the north, the Glatt forms the border between the quarter and the municipality of Wallisellen . In the east of the quarter lies the Mattenhof settlement, which forms a border with the municipality of Dübendorf . In the south is the heavily forested Weibelacker on the Zürichberg with the border to the Fluntern district . Winterthurerstrasse, Roswiesenstrasse, Stettbachstrasse and Franzosenweg form the border to the Schwamendingen-Mitte district.

The Heerenschürli leisure and sports facility is located to the east of the quarter. However, some of the sports fields are in the area of the municipality of Dübendorf. FC Schwamendingen and many of the club's youth football teams train on the various football fields.

The neighborhood schoolhouse is called the Hirzenbach schoolhouse. The school consists of three kindergarten locations with a total of six kindergartens, 15 primary school classes and five after-school hours. In total, over 400 children attend the Hirzenbach school. The children are taught by around 50 class and subject teachers. In the care area, there are over 40 after-school care directors, specialist women and men, care assistants and learners on duty.

Private traffic

The A1 motorway runs to the north of the quarter. The busy Überlandstrasse, Winterthurerstrasse and Dübendorferstrasse shape the image of the quarter. Hirzenbach was one of the first quarters in the city of Zurich to be traffic-calmed through 30 km / h zones and the associated structural measures.

Public transport

Until 1985 the Hirzenbach was only connected to the public transport network by bus routes 62, 64, 72 and 79. Although the Schwamendingen electorate rejected the trampoline project at the ballot box, it was implemented and operations began on February 1, 1986. Since then, Hirzenbach has been connected to downtown Zurich by the VBZ tram lines 7 and 9. The bus routes 94, 759, 787 (Altried stop) and 743, 751, 760, 787, 796 (Stettbach stop) open up the neighboring communities. From Stettbach train station, which is just outside the quarter , you can take the S-Bahn to downtown Zurich.
