In the north, the Limmat forms the border of the quarter. In the east it ends at the main station , in the south near the train tracks and to the west behind the railway - Viaduct of Wipkingerlinie .

The quarter is dominated by the Migros skyscraper on Limmatplatz. Langstrasse ends at this very busy place . The Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) is nearby .

The quarter is so named because most of the vocational or trade schools are located in this quarter.
