route

The starting point for the first professional race in 2006 was Coesfeld . The route led over 203 kilometers through the Baumberge towns of Nottuln , Havixbeck and Billerbeck to Münster, where the destination was on Schlossplatz . The route on the finish lap was based on a stage of the Giro d'Italia , which led from Groningen to Münster in 2002 and also ended in front of the prince-bishop's palace . While Münster is set as the destination, the start changes via different locations in the Münsterland and the route varies accordingly.

The first edition of the race in 2006

The first staging of the race was determined by a four-man leading group, which already pulled away from the peloton on the first lap and was at times up to eight minutes ahead. The winner of the race, Paul Martens , was the last of this group to withstand the pressure of the field and won by two seconds. His former companions Fabian Wegmann , Sebastian Siedler and Linus Gerdemann were overtaken by the field on the finish lap.

In addition to the professional races, the university championships in the individual time trial and on the road also took place.
