The Măgura Codlei ( German Zeidner Berg , Hungarian Feketehegy ) is a 1294 m high mountain in Burzenland in Romania . It is counted among the Eastern Carpathians , its name is derived from the small town of Codlea ( Zeiden / Feketehalom ) .

Geographical location

The Zeidner Berg, one of the most striking mountains in Burzenland, rises southeast of the Transylvanian Basin in the area of Zeidens in the Brașov district ( Kronstadt ). In the northwest it borders on the Perşani Mountains ( Spirit Forest ), in the west and south are the Transylvanian Alps ( Carpații Meridionali ). The next larger mountain range is the Piatra Craiului Mountains ( Königsstein Mountains ) in a south-westerly direction .

At the foot of the south side of the mountain is the small town of Zeiden, to the southwest the municipality of Holbav with its farms scattered across the hills. Further south of the mountain run the rivers Neugraben ( Vulcănița , through Codlea), the Burzen ( Bârsa , between Codlea and Ghimbav ), the Turbid Homorod ( Râul Homorod ) and the Goldbach ( Pârâul de aur ), which lead towards Dumbrăvița ( Schnakendorf ) flow.

hike

There are hiking trails around and on the Zeidner Berg , which can only be tackled on foot. Since the round forest ridge does not reveal the large angle of inclination of the mountain slope, the difficulty is easily underestimated. A hike from the center of Zeiden to the summit takes about two to two and a half hours. Immediately below the top of the mountain is a spacious grotto. Almost at the top of the mountain there is a forest clearing, what the Zeidners called Kalwer meadow.

Furthermore, around the mountain there is the Adamswiese , the Kuereswiese , to which a forest path leads past a disused quarry and the Burgau , where wild garlic grows in spring . On the way from the latter meadow towards the mountain peak you can get to the remains of the Schwarzburg .

  • The Schwarzburg ( Roman. "Cetatea Neagra"), on a 980 m high hilltop below the mountain, was first mentioned in 1265 as "castrum Feketewholum". Today only the remains of the defensive castle are preserved, built during the period of the Teutonic Knight Order (1211–1225) in Burzenland.
  • The Zeidner Waldbad , created in 1903/1904 at the source of the Goldbach, whose water is said to have a constant temperature of 18 ° C in summer and winter when it emerges from the rock face.

Possibility of viewing

  • The summit of the mountain, overgrown mainly with deciduous trees, allows in some places a good view of Burzenland, or of the municipality of Holbav and the Königssteingebirge.
  • From Mittagsstein (rocks towards Zeiden), view to the east on Zeiden, its greenhouses , then across the Burzen, Weidenbach and Kronstadt .
  • From the Knight's Rock (on the west side of the mountain), view towards Făgăraș ( Fogarasch ) .

The mountain as a weather prophet

In Burzenland the Zeidner Berg is also seen as a weather prophet, with a statement from the Burzenlanders: If the "Zeidner" has a hat, the weather will be good, if he has a collar, then you can dare, if he has a sword, there will be rain!

A poem from 1904 by an unknown author, dedicated to the mountain, was also found in the archives of the Evangelical Church Archives in Zeiden.
