Dumbrăvița (outdated Țânțari or Țânțariu ; German  Schnakendorf or Schnackendorf , Hungarian Szunyogszék or Szunyogszeg ) is a municipality in the Brașov district in the Transylvania region in Romania .

The municipality Dumbrăvița is located southeast of the Transylvanian Basin north of the Măgura Codlei (Zeidner Berg) , in the center of the Brașov district. At the confluence of the Valea Caselor brook into the Homorod - a left tributary of the Olt (Alt) -, on the district road ( drum județean ) DJ 112C and on the Brașov – Făgăraș railway line , Dumbrăvița is about 10 kilometers north of Codlea (Zeiden) ; the district capital Brașov (Kronstadt) is located about 25 kilometers southeast.

The place Dumbrăvița was mentioned in a document in 1470. At the end of the 18th century, the place was the seat of a border regiment in the Hungarian kingdom .

In the Kingdom of Hungary, the municipality was in the Törcsvár chair district (today Bran ) in Fogaras County , then in Făgăraş County and from 1950 in what is now Braşov County.

According to various sources, from 1960, Law No. 3 of 1960 or 1965 changed the former name of the place Țânțari into the current Dumbrăvița . In 2015, the then mayor of the municipality initiated a survey, with 90% of the residents surveyed agreeing to rename the place back.

In the 1850 census, 2964 people were counted in the area of ​​the Dumbrăvița municipality. In the municipality, which is predominantly Romanian , the highest number of inhabitants (5160) and also that of Romanians (5050) were registered in 1977. The highest population of Roma (466) was determined in 2002, that of Magyars (60) in 1910 and that of Romanian Germans (24) in 1890. In 2011, 4,624 people lived in the Dumbrăvița municipality. 4294 were Romanians, 148 Roma, 18 Magyars, four Romanian Germans and the rest did not provide any information about their ethnicity.

  • The Romanian Orthodox Churches Sf. Nicolae in Dumbrăvița and the Sf. Vasile cel Mare in the incorporated village of Vlădeni ( Wladein ).
  • In Dumbrăvița the Moara veche ("old mill" in Gării Street No. 959), built in 1887, is a listed building.
  • The Complexul piscicol Dumbrăvița , an almost 420 hectare nature reserve with an approximately 1.8 km² lake and several smaller ponds along the Homorod.
  • A heroes' cemetery with the Soviet war graves from World War II on European route 68 near the incorporated village of Vlădeni. ( )
