Recea ( Hungarian Vajdarécse ) is a municipality in Brașov County , in Transylvania , Romania .

Geographical location

Location of Recea in Brașov County

The municipality of Recea is located south of the Transylvanian Basin in the northern foothills of the Făgăraş Mountains ( Fagaras Mountains ). On the Săvăstreni brook a left tributary of the Olt ( Alt ) and on the district roads ( drum județean ) DJ 104A and 104C, the place Recea is 14 kilometers south of the city of Făgăraş ( Fogarasch ); the district capital Brașov ( Kronstadt ) is located about 70 kilometers to the east.

history

The place Recea was mentioned in documents in 1486 or 1556, according to different statements. At the time of the Austro-Hungarian Empire , a company of a border regiment was stationed in Recea.

In the Kingdom of Hungary , today's municipality was in the Fogaras district in the historic Fagaras County , then in Făgăraș County and, from 1950, today's Brașov County.

The present place was created by the merger of the two settlements Recea Nouă with Recea Veche - Telekirécse , named after the Hungarian noble family Teleki - 1964.

population

In the 1850 census, 5129 people were counted on the area of ​​today's Recea municipality. In the community, which is predominantly Romanian , the highest number of inhabitants (5604) and also that of the Romanians (5603) were registered in 1920. The Roma (263) were determined in 2002, the Magyars (12) in 1977 and the Romanian Germans (14) in 1956. In 2011 there were 3,118 people in the community of Recea. 2,867 were Romanians, 123 Roma, five were Magyars and the rest gave no information about their ethnicity.

The main occupation of the population is agriculture and wood processing.
