Ucea is a municipality in Brașov County , in Transylvania , Romania . Community seat is the place Ucea de Jos ( German  Gasendorf ).

The place Ucea de Jos is also known under the German name Unter-Utscha and the Hungarian A. Utsa .

Geographical location

Location of Ucea in Brașov County

The municipality of Ucea is located south of the Transylvanian Basin in the northern foothills of the Fagaras Mountains (Munții Făgăraș) in the west of the Brașov district. On the stream of the same name, a left tributary of the Olt (Alt) and on the Avrig – Făgăraş railway line , the municipality is located, from the transverse European route 68 , eight kilometers north of the small town of Victoria (Victoria City) . The district capital Brașov (Kronstadt) is located about 92 kilometers east of Ucea de Jos.

history

The settlement of the municipality goes back at least to Roman times , as has been proven by the excavations of the Feldioara fort , around 500 m south of the village of Feldioara , on the right bank of the Olt. The place Ucea de Jos was first mentioned in a document in 1223 or 1307, according to different sources. In the Kingdom of Hungary , today's municipality belonged to the Alsóárpás chair district in Fagaras County , then to the historical Făgăraș district and, from 1950, to today's Brașov district.

Around two thirds of the community area is cultivated today, one third is forested. Almost all of the approx. 970 properties in the community are connected to the water supply network. There are no sewers.

Since the official survey of 1850, the highest number of inhabitants (3438) and at the same time that of the Romanians (3258) and that of the Romanian Germans (52) in 1900 were determined in the area of ​​today's municipality. The highest number of Magyars (132) was registered in 1910 and that of Roma (300) was registered in 2002.

The main occupation of the population is livestock and agriculture.

Attractions

  • The Feldioara fort on the area of ​​the incorporated village of Feldioara - called Cetățea by the locals - are the remains of a Roman fort. These are under monument protection.
