The place is also known under the Hungarian name Nyén or Nyeny .
Geographical location
The municipality Teliu is located in the south of the Eastern Carpathians in the western foothills of the Intorsura , a part of the Munții Buzăului (Bosau Mountains) . On the stream of the same name, a right tributary of the Tărlung , on the national road (drum național) DN 10 and on the railway line Brașov – Întorsura Buzăului , the place is about 17 kilometers west of the small town of Întorsura Buzăului (Bodsau) in the Covasna district ; the district capital Brașov (Kronstadt) is located about 25 kilometers southeast.
history
The place Teliu was first mentioned in documents in 1222 or 1300, according to different sources. Remains of an earth castle on the area of the place, about one kilometer northwest of the locals called Dealul Cetății , indicate a settlement in the Latène period . The approximately 90 meter long and between 15 and 35 meter wide fortification is surrounded by three earth walls (not completely).
In the Kingdom of Hungary , today's place belonged to the Sepsi chair district in Háromszék County , then to the historical Brașov district and from 1950 to the Brașov district in its current composition. Around half of the community area is cultivated today. Of the approximately 1500 properties in the village, only a third are connected to the water supply network. There are no sewers.

Attractions
- The Romanian Orthodox Church Sf. Dumitru , built in the 18th century and renovated in 1980, is a listed building.
- The Reformed Church at 282 Petőfi Sándor Street was built at the end of the 19th century.
- The longest railway tunnel in Romania is located on the area of the municipality. The 4,369.5 meter long tunnel was originally completed by Julius Berger Tiefbau AG-Berlin at the end of 1928 for a double-track railway line that was to connect Transylvania with Great Wallachia . The tunnel was opened to rail traffic in June 1931, but only opened three years later. The 1907 planned railway line called "drum de fier" (iron way) , was never completed due to financial difficulties between Întorsura Buzăului and Nehoiaşu - a cadastral municipality of the city of Nehoiu - (about 34 km as the crow flies). Today only passenger trains run on the Brașov – Întorsura Buzăului railway line.
