Părău [ pɘˈrɘu ] (outdated Pareu ; German Berau , Hungarian Párou ) is a municipality in the Brașov District , in Transylvania , Romania .
The place Părău is also known under the German name Mikesdorf and the Hungarian Paró .
Geographical location
The municipality of Părău is located southeast of the Transylvanian Basin , north of the Fagaras Mountains ( Munții Făgăraș ) and east of the Perșani Mountains ( Munții Perșani ) at the mouth of the stream of the same name in the Olt ( Alt ). On the national road ( drum național ) DN 1S, the place Părău is 19 kilometers east of the city of Făgăraş ( Fogarasch ), the district capital Brașov ( Kronstadt ) is about 60 kilometers southeast.
history
The place Părău was first mentioned in documents in 1293, 1471 or 1527, according to various sources.
In the Kingdom of Hungary , today's municipality was partly in the Fogaras District (today Făgăraș ) and partly in the Sárkány District (today Șercaia ) both in the historical Fogaras County . Subsequently, the places of the municipality belonged to the administrative area of the Făgăraș County , and from 1950 to the present-day Brașov County.
population
In the 1850 census, 4,019 people were counted in the Parish of Părău. In the community, which is predominantly Romanian , the highest number of inhabitants (4,662) and also that of Romanians (4,620) were registered in 1920. The highest population of the Roma (247) was found in 1977 and that of the Magyars (46) in 1956. Romanian Germans and Slovaks were also registered. In 2011, 1,874 people lived in the community. 1,635 were Romanians, 144 Roma, five were Magyars, one or two Romanian Germans and the rest did not provide any information about their ethnicity.
Attractions
- The Romanian Orthodox churches in the incorporated villages of Veneția de Sus Cuvioasa Paraschiva (built in 1778 and renovated in 1830) and in Veneția de Jos the Adormirea Maicii Domnului (built 1790 to 1818) are listed buildings.
- According to Samuil Micu , an inscription with the text: Vixit Gregorius primus Venetus anno domini 1185 was found on the house of the dean Mone Ionaș in Veneția de Jos , but it is dated to the Middle Ages . In the same place, the former town hall is preserved under monument protection.
