Poiana Mărului [ ˈpoiana mɘrului ] ( German  Bleschenbach , Hungarian Almásmező ) is a municipality in the Brașov district in Transylvania , Romania .

Geographical location

Location of Poiana Mărului in Brașov County

The municipality of Poiana Mărului is located southeast of the Transylvanian Basin , north of the Piatra Craiului Mountains ( Königsstein Mountains ). On the brook Șercaia, a left tributary of the Olt ( Alt ), and on the national road ( Drum național ) DN 73A, the place is 7 kilometers north of the town of Zărneşti ( Zernen ) - over a 763  m high pass road - the district capital Braşov ( Kronstadt ) is located about 30 kilometers northeast.

According to various sources, the municipality is located on an area of ​​6222.34 hectares or 9460 hectares.

history

The place Poiana Mărului was first mentioned in 1589. According to Ecaterina Dunăreanu-Vulpe and Mircea Petrescu-Dâmbovița, archaeological finds that were made on the area of ​​the site indicate the Monteoru culture and are in the Kronstadt Museum. In the Kingdom of Hungary , today's municipality was in the Törcsvár district (today Bran ) in the historical Fogaras county . Subsequently, the municipality belonged to the administrative area of ​​the historical Brașov District and from 1950 to today's Brașov District.

In 1968 the villages Șinca Nouă and Paltin were assigned to the community center Poiana Mărului , so that the community at that time was one of the largest in Romania with 144 km². In 2002, the municipality was restructured again, so that the place Poiana Mărului is the only one in today's municipality.

Since the first censuses in Transylvania, Poiana Mărului has been reported as predominantly inhabited by Romanians . In 1850, 1368 inhabitants - Romanians - were registered. Since the peak in 1977 (3687 inhabitants) the population has decreased. With almost every admission, Magyars and Romanians became Germans ; Roma only registered in 1930 (32) and 2002 (4). In 2011, 3195 of the 3315 people referred to themselves as Romanians, while the rest did not provide any information about their ethnicity.

Attractions

  • The Romanian Orthodox Church Naşterea Sf. Ioan Botezătorul , donated in 1707 by the Wallachian prince Constantin Brâncoveanu , renovated in 1777, a stone cross on the church area dating from 1700 and the rectory erected in 1892, are listed as historical monuments.
