Magdalena Kemper (born July 17, 1947 in Berlin ) is a German journalist and former editor of the Sender Freies Berlin (SFB) and the Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB).

Life

Magdalena Kemper grew up as the youngest of four children in Berlin-Dahlem. Her father Heinrich Kemper worked at the Federal Health Office and taught at the same time as a professor of zoology at the Free University of Berlin, while the mother was responsible for care and family responsibilities. Kemper passed her Abitur in 1967 at the Droste-Hülshoff-Schule in Zehlendorf . Between 1967 and 1973 she studied German and journalism at the Free University of Berlin (FU) and the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and completed her Magistra Artium with a thesis on mirror symbolism with Rainer Maria Rilke .

From 1973 she worked as a reporter for the youth radio of the Sender Freies Berlin (SFB) and as a freelancer for the WDR , NDR , HR and BR. From 1975 to 1976 she was press spokeswoman for the International Design Center (IDZ). In 1979 she became a permanent editor at the SFB and in the same year was co-founder of the ARD-wide first daily women's political radio magazine Zeite at the Sender Freies Berlin (SFB). She switched from SFB 1 to SFB 3 with the program and, after the merger with the ORB, to RBB Kulturradio and worked as editor of the program until her retirement in 2011. In addition, Kemper has moderated the program The Conversation from 1985 to the present day and conducted numerous interview portraits a. a. with Margarete Mitscherlich , Ruth Klüger , Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky , Helke Sander , Katja Lange-Müller , Margarethe von Trotta , Lore Maria Peschel-Gutzeit .

Her journalistic work focuses not only on women's issues but also on the effects of National Socialism and the consequences of exile .

Even after her retirement, Kemper is still committed to gender-conscious and feminist reporting in the media.

Honorary positions

Magdalena Kemper is a member of the Association of Women Journalists . As an experienced mentor, she has been supporting young colleagues and young professionals on their way to media careers since 2001.

Between 2005 and 2011 she was a member of the advisory board of the archive of the German women's movement in Kassel. She has been a member of the jury for the Berlin Women's Prize since 2012 and is involved in the Stolperstein initiative Friedbergstrasse in Berlin-Charlottenburg .
