Magdalena Tulli, 2015

Magdalena Tulli , pseudonym Marek Nocny (born October 20, 1955 in Warsaw ) is a Polish writer and literary translator . She is currently one of the most important writers in Poland.

Live and act

Her mother survived the Auschwitz concentration camp and lived with her daughter in Warsaw . During her school days, Magdalena Tulli spent the summer holidays with her Italian father's family in Milan . After graduating from high school (Polish: Matura ), she studied biology and Polish studies at the University of Warsaw .

In 1995 she made her debut with dreams and stones (Sny i kamienie) and promptly received the Kościelski Prize in Geneva . In the same year she took part in the Literary Colloquium in Berlin. In 1999 she translated The Fear of Heaven (La paura del cielo) by Fleur Jaeggy into Polish , followed by books by Italo Calvino and Marcel Proust . She is a member of the Association of Polish Writers (Stowarzyszenie Pisarzy Polskich).

For the book Italian Heeled Shoes (Włoskie szpilki), which appeared in 2011, she received two literary prizes in 2012 and was nominated for the Nike Literature Prize in Warsaw and for the Angelus Silesius Central Europe Literature Prize in Wroclaw . In spring 2013 her first children's book Radau im Wald (Awantura w lesie) was published in Łódź . In 2015 she found herself on the shortlist for the Nike Literature Prize for Rauschen (Szum), which, like Italian high heels, has strongly autobiographical traits .
