Historical development

1895 to 1945

In 1895 Josef and Julia Mainka founded a company for small paving and civil engineering works in Langendorf, Upper Silesia . Business was idle during the First World War . In the inter-war period , especially in the 1930s, the craft business gradually developed into a construction company.

In 1936, August Mainka (1910–1971), one of the founding couple's sons, took over the business at the age of 26. The first years of the war led to larger orders, so that the company owner was indispensable . After he was drafted into the Wehrmacht at the end of 1942, operations were shut down again due to the war.

1948 to 1989

In 1948 August Mainka was released from French captivity . Because he saw no future in the Upper Silesian region, he turned to Lingen. Two of his brothers stayed there. At that time, it was not possible to set up your own craft business there. However, the widow of a building craftsman from Haselünne , whose business was still registered in the craft register, allowed August Mainka to use the Feldhaus company for commercial purposes. In 1948 the rebuilding of the company began in this way. In 1949 the company was then called August Mainka Straßen- und Tiefbau . Over the next 20 years, the company dealt with minor road construction works for the public sector as well as with paved roads, earthworks and road construction works for the local oil industry ; it thus developed into a locally relevant road and civil engineering company. When August Mainka died in 1971, the company had around 200 employees and generated sales of DM 20 million .

Subsequently, the area of responsibility extended mainly to road construction for public clients. There was also work for the private sector: road and track construction as well as pipeline construction for the oil and gas industry in the region. In 1974 the company was converted into a limited partnership . Marie-Theres Mainka-Peterson, August Mainka's widowed wife, acted as managing partner, supported by an advisory board from 1980. In the same year, the limited partnership was also transformed into a GmbH & Co. KG . In 1985, the company expanded its range with sewage treatment plant construction and thus found its way into building construction. The range of construction services was rounded off by AM Bauservice GmbH , which took on transport services and was active in the building materials trade . At the end of the 1980s, the market extended to the north of the Federal Republic, in the south it reached into northern North Rhine-Westphalia .

Since 1990

After reunification , the construction company also became active in Saxony and Thuringia , in 1991 it acquired a company in Greiz , which then traded as Greizer Bau GmbH . In 1992, the family Mainka was 25.1% of the company shares in August Mainka road and civil engineering GmbH & Co. from. Deutsche Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH and Deutsche Beteiligungs AG were accepted as limited partners with a combined 25.1%. Marie-Theres Mainka-Peterson (24.8%) and her son Andreas Mainka (50.1%) held the other shares.

In 1996 Andreas Mainka joined the management team and has been running the company since then in the third generation. Since 1996, the company has placed particular emphasis on compliance with occupational health and safety regulations. In 2008 Deutsche Beteiligungs AG sold its stake to the family shareholders. In 2015 the headquarters in Lingen was rebuilt and expanded. For the company's 125th anniversary, the company changed to Mainka Bau GmbH & Co. KG at the beginning of 2020 .
