The Mandelbach is a 13 km long stream in the Saarpfalz district in Saarland . It rises northeast of the Blieskasteler district of Aßweiler and flows through the Mandelbachtal districts of Erfweiler-Ehlingen , Wittersheim , Bebelsheim and Habkirchen in a south-south-west direction . It flows almost parallel to the former Nancy-Bingener Straße, today's federal highway 423 .

From the upper reaches to the mouth of the Mandelbach there are numerous polluted willows on its banks . In earlier centuries, baskets, which are indispensable for rural agriculture, were woven from the branches of these polluted willows. Since its leaves were similar to those of the almond tree , the tree was popularly called almond. So the stream flowing past became the Mandelbach and this became the namesake of the valley surrounding it . Shortly before the mouth of the Mandelbach in the Blies was once the place Mandelbach (first mentioned in 1239), which is today in the Habkirchen district.

The brook also gives its name to the community that extends beyond the actual valley.

The region around the Mandelbach is the core of the Bliesgau's cultural landscape .
