Manusos Manusakas
Manusos Ioannu Manusakas ( Greek Μανούσος Ιωάννου Μανούσακας , born December 3, 1904 in Rethymno ; † July 16, 2003 ), in French transcription Manousos Ioannou Manousacas , was a Greek Byzantinist and Neo-Graecist .
Life
Manousakas came from the Sphakia and the village of Imbros on his grandfather's side . After attending high school in his home country, he studied from 1932 to 1937 at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Athens . From 1938 to 1941 he was secretary of the editorial committee of the Εταιρεία Κρητικών Σπουδών ( Society for Cretan Studies ). In 1942 he was appointed editor of the Μεσαιωνικού Αρχείου ( Medieval Archives ), the later Κέντρου Ερεύνης του Μεσαιωνικού και Νέου Ελλ1, νισμού ( Research Center for the Middle Ages 1966 ) from the same and newer academy from Athens to 1966 ( research center for the Middle Ages .
From 1947 to 1951 he studied in Paris on a grant from the French government . With a further grant from the CNRS , he attended events at the Sorbonne and the École Pratique des Hautes Études to specialize in paleography and the technique of editing ancient texts and prints. In March 1951, he received his doctorate with a dissertation entitled Contribution à l'histoire de l'épistolographie neo-hellénique as the best of his class at the Faculté des Lettres of the University of Paris . In March 1960 he was awarded a dissertation under the title Η εν Κρήτη συνωμοσία του Σήφη Βλαστού (1453–1454) και η νέα συνωμοτική κίνωμοτική κίνη “σης του 1460–1462 and the new conspiracy of the Siphon Movement from 1460–1462 ”) as the best of his class at the University of Thessaloniki .
In 1961 he was appointed to the Chair of Medieval and Modern History at the University of Thessaloniki and taught there until 1966. That year the Academy of Athens appointed him director of the Istituto Ellenico di Studi Bizantini e Postbizantini di Venezia , a position that he held until 1982. From 1975 to 1980 he was the director of the Κέντρο Βυζαντινών και Νεοελληνικών Ερευνών του νθνικού Ιδρύματος Ερευνών ( Center for Byzantine and Neo- Greek Research Center of the Hetan University from 1975 to 1981) and chairman of the administrative council of the Byzantine and Neo- Greek Research Center of the Hetaellenistic Council from 1975 to 1981 . In 1980 he was elected a corresponding member of the Academy of Athens, in 1982 for Ακαδημαϊκός and in 1995 as its chairman.
From 1962 to 1982 he published the magazine Θησαυρίσματα of the Istituto Ellenico di Studi Bizantini e Postbizantini di Venezia.
Research priorities
His research focused on the modern Greek epistolography ( Frangiskos Skuphos , Greek Φραγκίσκος Σκούφος ), the Byzantine and post-Byzantine history, especially the period of Venetokratie and the Cretan literature of the Renaissance (an unknown Cretan comedy The Lost Bride ) and paleography (the 574 miniatures in the factory of Johannes Skylitzes ) and edition philology.
