Mape is an East Timorese suco in the Zumalai administrative office ( Cova Lima municipality ). The place Mape in the administrative office is in Suco Raimea . "Mape" is the Bunak word for "osprey".
geography
Before the 2015 regional reform, Mape had an area of 30.59 km². Now it is 23.61 km². The Suco is located in the north of the Zumalai administrative office. To the north is the Suco Ucecai , to the west of Zulo , to the south of Lepo and Fatuleto and to the south-east of Lour . In the northeast of Suco is Mau Nuno (Office of Administration Ainaro , community Ainaro ). The river Beleten flows along the northern border , into which the Seldena flows from the Suco . The western and southern borders are formed by the Fatoro River , into which the valley flows from Mape . All of these rivers eventually end in the Mola River . There are no larger contiguous settlements in Suco.
In Mape are the ruins of a 20th century fortress.
In the Suco are the three Aldeias Daro , Mape Canua and Polo .
Residents
313 inhabitants live in the Suco (2015), of which 154 are men and 159 women. The population density is 13.3 inhabitants / km². There are 59 households in the Suco. Over 81% of the population name Kemak as their mother tongue. Almost 19% speak Tetum Prasa .
history
At the end of March / beginning of April 1942, during the Battle of Timor , Mape became the headquarters of Brigadier General William Veale , the commanding officer (CO) of the Allied troops in Timor . The Japanese bombed Mape on August 9th and 10th .
politics
In the 2004/2005 elections , Francisco Fereira was elected Chefe de Suco. In the 2009 elections won Afonso Amaral .
