Marco Bürki (born July 10, 1993 in Bern ) is a Swiss football player who plays as a central defender. He has been under contract with the Swiss club FC Luzern since February 2020 . The left-footer is the brother of goalkeeper Roman Bürki .

Career

Bürki played in the junior division of the BSC Young Boys from 2006 . He made his Super League debut in the 2011/12 season . As a result of a metatarsal fracture, he was out from October 2013 until the end of the 2013/14 season. In the new 2014/15 season he had two championship appearances before he injured his foot again (this time his ankle). He was only back in the squad from March 2014 and had three league games by the end of the season.

For the 2015/16 season he was loaned to FC Thun .

In the 2017/18 season Bürki returned to BSC Young Boys and became Swiss champions with the club. After his contract with Bern expired at the end of the season, he signed a new contract with a term of three years (plus an extension option) with the Belgian first division partner SV Zulte Waregem at the end of March 2018 .

In mid-February 2020 he moved back to Switzerland for FC Luzern with a contract term until summer 2022.

National team

Between 2010 and 2013 he played a number of friendly matches for the Swiss U-18 , U-20 and U-21 national teams . Until now he was not part of the senior national team.
