David Zibung (born January 10, 1984 in Hergiswil NW ) is a Swiss football goalkeeper who has been under contract with FC Luzern in the Swiss Super League since 2003 .

Career

society

Zibung has long been considered a promising talent in the position of goalkeeper in Swiss football. His strong performances in the promotion season of FC Luzern (2005/06) earned him three internationals for the U21 national team . From the second half of the 2006/07 season he became the new captain of FC Luzern.

In 2007 he took part for the second time after 2005 (1: 3 defeat against FC Zurich) with FC Luzern in the final of the Swiss Cup , but saw the red card in stoppage time because of a foul. Daniel Majstorović then converted the penalty against the substitute goalkeeper Besnik Zukaj to make it 1-0 for FC Basel.

In 2008, after strong performances in the Axpo Super League , Zibung was considered a candidate for the goalkeeper position at Borussia Dortmund , as Roman Weidenfeller had experienced a weak phase the previous season. But Zibung stayed with FC Luzern and managed to keep the league in the barrage against FC Lugano with a 5-1 total score, where he was able to parry a penalty in the 85th minute of the second leg. In the following year, Zibung contributed to 4th place at FC Luzern and thus to the European Cup through strong performances. In the 2010/11 season Zibung impressed with strong performances and won the winter championship with FC Luzern.

On November 29, 2015, Zibung played his 400th championship game for FC Luzern, after being demoted to substitute keeper by coach Carlos Bernegger .

In spring 2016, his contract, which ran until the end of June 2016, was extended by one year. At the end of the 2015/16 season, Zibung reached the Europa League qualification for the fourth time in six years with FC Luzern. Since the beginning of the second half of the 2016/17 season he has only been a substitute goalkeeper, having previously been by far the longest-serving regular goalkeeper in the Swiss Super League.

At the end of August 2016, Zibung extended his contract prematurely to the end of June 2019. At the beginning of October 2018, he again became number 1 at FC Luzern and played 26 championship games until the end of the 2019 season. His contract was extended by one year on June 9, 2020 to the end of June 2021.
