Marque (born September 2, 1972 in Altstätten , Switzerland ; actually Marcus Nigsch ) is an Austrian composer , singer , music producer and songwriter .

Life

The musician, who grew up in Feldkirch , released his first album Wanna Make Love to You in 1995 and played almost all of the instruments himself. He had his final breakthrough in 2000 with his hit single One to Make Her Happy from his third album Freedomland , for which he was awarded the Amadeus Austrian Music Award . Nigsch studied composition at the Vorarlberg State Conservatory with Herbert Willi .

In 2005 he took sixth place in the Austrian preliminary round of the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 with the songs Who You Are and eighth with In the Universe . In 2007 Marque composed chorales for the ecumenical welcome celebration “Moving Souls” for the Gymnaestrada , which were premiered by the Feldkirch Chamber Choir . The texts of these chorales come from the Austrian playwright Fritz Schindlecker .

In 2008, 2010 and 2011 Marque wrote the soundtrack for the ORF series Die Lottosieger . In 2010 he was co-author and producer of the album Soul Is Heavy by Nigerian singer Nneka under the pseudonym “The Slag” . In 2011 Marque released the album Untimely Adventures in a limited edition under the name Geordie Gill . The record contains old English songs mixed with neoclassical arrangements.

In 2012, Marcus Nigsch's classical composition Fröhjaar (trio for violin, cello and piano) was awarded 3rd place in the composition competition of the Franz-Josef Reinl Foundation. In the same year he was also the winner of the Vienna Film Music Prize.

In 2013 he composed the semi-opera Dangerous Liaisons for the Vorarlberger Landestheater based on the letter novel by Pierre-Ambroise-François Choderlos de Laclos as well as the film music for Die Mamba by Ali Samadi Ahadi with Michael Niavarani and Christoph Maria Herbst . In 2014 Nigsch wrote the Singspiel for chamber orchestra , Das große Welttheater , in an arrangement by Michael Wallner based on Pedro Calderón de la Barca , which was played in several open-air performances in Bildstein by the Vorarlberg State Theater .

In 2018 he was unanimously awarded the composition prize of the State of Vorarlberg. In particular, the imaginative and generally understandable musical language was emphasized as an outstanding artistic characteristic. Furthermore, the jury of the extended art commission attested that the composer had an unbelievable abundance of creativity and inventiveness in addition to his “outstanding craftsmanship”.

Marcus Nigsch is a member of the European Film Academy , the Academy of Austrian Films and the Austrian Association of Composers .

Nigsch lives in Feldkirch .
