Marcus Wendel Valle da Silva (born August 28, 1997 in Duque de Caxias ), also known as Wendel , is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays as a central midfielder for the Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon in the Primeira Liga .

Career

Wendel started his career in the youth of EC Tigres do Brasil . In 2017 he moved to Fluminense Rio de Janeiro , where he was promoted to the first team that same year after good performance in the U-20 team. Here he could become an integral part of the starting XI.

He signed a contract with Sporting Lisbon in January 2018 for a transfer of 7.5 million euros, valid until 2023, with an exit clause of 60 million euros, whereby Fluminense would receive 10% of the money. He made his league debut for Sporting on December 3, 2018 in a 3-1 away win over Rio Ave FC . Wendel initially struggled to adapt to the pace and tactics of European football, resulting in short playing time in the first half of the season. As time went on, however, he became an important part of the team.

Wendel made his debut in Brazil's U-21 national team on June 2, 2019 in a friendly against Guatemala . In the 4-0 victory he was able to score the third goal.
