Margareta Juncu , née Mureşan , (born March 13, 1950 in Cluj-Napoca ) is a Romanian chess player and also known under the names Margareta Mureşan and Margareta Mureşan-Juncu.
Life
In the 1980s she was one of the leading Romanian chess players. She won the Romanian Championship in 1983, 1985 and 1987, and came second in 1979 and third in 1971.
Due to her international success, she received the title of Women's Grand Master (WGM) from FIDE in 1982 .
She was also a strong correspondence chess player and participated in the first Correspondence Chess Olympiad for Romania.

Juncu is listed as inactive at FIDE as she has not played a rated game since the 2001/02 Romanian team championship.
Candidates tournaments
She took part several times in the tournaments for the women's chess world championship . In 1982 she won the interzonal tournament in Tbilisi . Irina Levitina took second place. A year later, she played in the quarter-finals of the World Cup, in 1983 in Bad Kissingen and just lost to Lydyja Semenowa . The final won Irina Levitina against Lydyja Semenowa.
In 1985 she played the interzonal tournament in Shelznovodsk , which Marta Litinskaya won. She finished eighth, ahead of Giovanna Arbunic and Maria Ivanka . Then she took part in the zone tournaments in 1987 in Balatonfüred and 1989 in Brno .
National team

From 1978 to 1990 she represented Romania at all seven women's chess Olympiads . She played five times on the first board and won three Olympic medals in the team standings (silver in 1982 and bronze in 1984 and 1986 ).
Correspondence chess
From 1974 to 1979 the Romanian team (Margareta Mureşan, Maria Albuleț , Margareta Perevoznic, Victoria Simu) took part in the 1st Women's Correspondence Chess Olympiad. Margareta Juncu (Mureșan) is now the managing director of the Romanian Chess Federation, see Romanian Correspondence Chess - 2003 Report .
At that time, the Soviet team with Olga Rubzowa on the first board won the gold medal and the German team with Juliane Hund on board 1 won the silver medal, Romania finished sixth.
More tournaments
From 1974 to 1994 Margareta Juncu took part in many tournaments, including 1974 in Halle , 1984 in Jajce , 1987 in Sotschi , 1987 in Biel , 1987 in Dortmund , 1988 in Warsaw , 1989 on the Balearic Islands , 1990 in Dresden , 1992 in Călimăneşti . She won the international tournament in Dortmund in 1987 and came third in Budapest in 1991, together with Margarita Wojska and Hanna Ereńska-Radzewska .
She also took part in Romanian championships (1992/2002) and team fights (2001/02). Since 1996 she has rarely played tournaments.
