Margrethausen is a district of Albstadt in the Zollernalbkreis in Baden-Württemberg .

geography

The village is located on the Swabian Alb , about halfway between Stuttgart and Lake Constance , a few kilometers south of the source of the Eyach in its valley.

history

The place Margrethausen was first mentioned in 1275 as "Husen Margarete" in a tax register of the Bishop of Constance . The Margrethausen monastery was founded here in 1338 . 1000 meters east of the monastery are the remains of Wildentierberg Castle from the 13th century on the "Kugelbergle" . In 1370 the rule of Meßstetten came to the Wildentierberger line in Margrethausen. The brothers Hans Rudolf and Hans Konrad von Tierberg von der Wildentierberg certify an agreement on the basis of the spiritual fiefs at Ebingen, Lautlingen, Margrethausen and Meßstetten (Stetten). In 1418 Konrad von Hölstein sold Tieringen, Meßstetten and Hossingen to Württemberg, but kept his house in Tieringen.

The rulership of the place was up to the 15th century with the Lords of Tierberg . As a result, it passed through the Lords of Westerstetten to the family of the Lords of Stauffenberg in 1625 .

In the Thirty Years War (1618–1648) the village and the monastery church were badly destroyed. In 1707 the church was rebuilt, with the tower of the previous building being used up to the bell storey.

After the secularization of 1803 under Napoleon , the place fell to Württemberg in 1805 . From then on Margrethausen was subordinate to the Oberamt Balingen and thus belonged to the Kingdom of Württemberg , newly established in 1806 , and from 1919 to the People's State of Württemberg . Margrethausen came to the district in 1934 and to the district of Balingen in 1938 .

The patroness of the parish is Saint Margaret ; The place takes its name from her, as there are other Hausen places in the vicinity (Zillhausen, Stockenhausen). In 1934 the parish church received a new choir with very remarkable stained glass.

On December 1, 1971, Margrethausen was incorporated into the large district town of Ebingen and with this on January 1, 1975, as part of the community reform, part of the newly founded town of Albstadt.

coat of arms

Margrethausen coat of arms
Blazon : "In blue, a striding golden stag under a golden shield head with three blue crowns arranged in bars."
Justification of the coat of arms: The stag stands for the former lords of Tierberg . The deer symbolizes the ruling family (Lautlingen = doe, Hossingen = deer calf) the mountain has been lost - in contrast to the Lautlinger coat of arms, in which the deer (female counterpart to the deer) stands on a mountain. The three crowns in the head of the shield stand for the three wise men. They were the patrons of the Margrethausen monastery. The coat of arms was awarded to the municipality on September 12, 1949.

Culture and sights

Buildings

Margrethausen Monastery

Margrethausen's appearance and history are shaped by the massive monastery complex. There were Franciscan Sisters here as early as 1338 ; according to an oral tradition 40 years earlier. The current buildings were completed in 1723. After the monastery was dissolved in 1811, the south wing was demolished in the second half of the 19th century. The remaining parts of the building are currently home to the Catholic parish, the local administration, the volunteer fire brigade and the Swabian Alb Association . The still original oven in the basement is worth seeing. To the left of this is the drying room for the monastery’s freshly washed laundry: A passage to the oven allows the waste heat to enter the drying room.

The Catholic Church of St. Margaret (built in 1337, rebuilt in 1707) received a new, modern choir as an extension in 1933/1934 . The 13 stained glass windows in the apse , inserted between narrow concrete pillars, are artistically composed by Wilhelm Geyer ; figuratively they represent a sophisticated theological program.

On the Kugelbergle on the Ochsenberg east of Margrethausen are the remains of Wildentierberg Castle . The supply yard of the castle on the Ochsenberg is still in operation today; it is now used as an excursion restaurant.

education

In the former school there is the State Seminar for Didactics and Teacher Training (GHS) Albstadt with a learning workshop for prospective teachers and the “Service Center English Primary School” of the School and Education Department of the Tübingen Regional Council.

Youth home

In the Käsenbachtal there has been a camping site with a leisure center since 1985.
