Truchtelfingen is the fourth largest district of Albstadt in the Zollernalb district in Baden-Württemberg .

geography

Truchtelfingen is located on the Swabian Alb , about halfway between Stuttgart and Lake Constance . The village lies in the valley of the Schmiecha , a left tributary of the Danube . To the north is Tailfingen , to the south is Ebingen .

history

The place is an Alemannic foundation, which was probably made by a clan chief named Truchtolf after the expulsion of the Romans (260 AD) . In a Merovingian grave investigated in 1978 near Truchtelfingen, Küpfermünzen (Deka) of Justinian I were found. The place is mentioned for the first time in 950 in a document from King Otto the Great .

In the 12th and 13th centuries Truchtelfingen came to the St. Gallen monastery . In the 14th century the Lords of Schalksburg acquired Truchtelfingen, whose rule in 1403 bought Württemberg . Truchtelfingen has been part of Württemberg since then. The place then belonged to the office in Balingen .

In 1534 Duke Ulrich von Württemberg introduced the Reformation in his territory , and thus also in Truchtelfingen, and the place has been Protestant ever since .

From 1806, the place subordinated to the Oberamt Balingen belonged to the newly established Kingdom of Württemberg . The place was initially hardly affected by industrialization , because the valley cut is particularly wide here, which makes agriculture easier. So the Truchelfinger could make a living from agriculture; forced to sideline here was not as strong as in the neighboring communities. The textile industry in the neighboring towns (Ebingen, Tailfingen) developed from the sideline - hosiery knitting. Even today, Truchtelfingen is more strongly characterized by agriculture than this. This led to the wealthy Tailfinger manufacturers racing through Truchtelfingen in their cars as early as 1900, which cost the lives of many Truchtelfinger chickens. Industry settled in Truchtelfingen very late and very hesitantly; the residents of the village went to work in the neighboring villages when agriculture was not enough for a living . In 1901 the valley railway of the Württemberg Railway Company was put into operation. Both the Truchtelfingen employees and the local entrepreneurs benefited from this transport connection.

In 1934, Truchtelfingen was incorporated into the neighboring town of Tailfingen under pressure from the National Socialists .

On January 1, 1975, Truchtelfingen and Tailfingen became part of the newly founded large district town of Albstadt as part of the municipal reform and has since been able to gain more independence again. Since Truchtelfingen came to Albstadt as a district from Tailfingen, the place today neither has its own mayor nor its own local council. In terms of local politics, the “spokesman for the Truchtelfinger clubs” repeatedly acts as a “substitute school”. Until February 2002 this was Artur Söll, until May 2015 Klaus Konzelmann . When he was elected Lord Mayor of Albstadt, he gave up the office and Johannes Jetter was elected as his successor.

In 1998, the WEG stopped operating the valley lift due to a lack of profitability.

coat of arms

The blazon of the Truchtelfingen coat of arms shows under a golden shield head , a lying black deer pole with a right-facing root, in silver an upright black bear walking from right to left with a silver collar.
Explanation: In the Middle Ages , the place belonged to the St. Gallen Monastery in Switzerland for a time ; whose heraldic animal is the bear. The antler pole indicates that it belongs to Württemberg . The coat of arms was awarded to the municipality in 1918.
