Margrit Kessler (born December 25, 1948 in Lucerne ; resident in Schaffhausen ) is a Swiss patient advocate and politician ( glp ).

Life

Kessler trained as a nurse at the Limmattal Hospital from 1967 to 1970. After completing additional training as an intensive care nurse, Kessler spent half a year in Laos in 1972 . The following year she took part in additional training in anesthesia at the University Hospital Zurich . From 1974 Kessler worked as an intensive care nurse at the St. Gallen Cantonal Hospital . In 1996 she ended this activity and became a consultant at the SPO Patient Protection Foundation, of which she has been President since 1999. Kessler is married and has four grown sons. She lives in Altstätten .

Political commitment

Kessler was a member of the CVP from 1985 to 1999 . Even then, she ran twice for a seat on the National Council, albeit unsuccessfully. From 1999 she was non-party. As a member of the Green Liberal Party (glp), she was elected to the National Council for the canton of St. Gallen in the 2011 National Council elections. She was not re-elected in the 2015 National Council elections.
