The Roman Catholic parish church of the Assumption in Neufahrn in Niederbayern is a neo-Romanesque basilica that was built in the 1930s with the inclusion of older parts. The church is a monument of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation with the number D-2-74-153-1.

history

Already around 800 there were two churches in Neufahrn: on the one hand the St. Vitus Church for the lords of the Hofmarks , on the other hand a house of God for Our Lady for the common people. The feast day of St. Vitus (June 15) was celebrated as a major festival by the village population until 1934. Around 1300 a brick church was built in Romanesque style for the first time , which already stood on the site of today's church. It was a choir tower church , so the choir was housed in the basement of the tower, which is still preserved today. This building was expanded and rebuilt around 1620 in the Baroque style, with the choir and tower being taken over from the Romanesque church. The tower was raised by a new bell storey and crowned with a baroque dome .

Due to the strong increase in population and the increased importance of Neufahrn due to the construction of the Landshut-Regensburg railway in the second half of the 19th century, Neufahrn was elevated to a branch in 1904 and a parish on July 24, 1923 . The baroque church soon became too small. In 1937 and 1938, for example, Pastor Georg Kick built today's neo-Romanesque building. The core Romanesque tower was included and connects to the south of the new choir. The baroque hood was replaced by a gable roof. Today's church is therefore a little further north than its predecessor buildings.

description

The church, a basilical building in Romanesque forms, has a spacious interior with a high nave with a flat ceiling and two low aisles. The clearly drawn-in choir is spanned by a barrel vault with short transverse barrels to the window opening and is separated from the nave by a typical Romanesque round arch . The facade of the nave and choir is largely unstructured, but the five-story tower is made all the more elaborate with pilaster strips and plaster bands. The top is a gable roof framed by a stepped gable .

To the west of the church is the large local cemetery.

Furnishing

The elaborate furnishings of the church were taken over from the previous building and are therefore essentially baroque. The high altar is a gift from the Niedermünster Abbey in Regensburg in 1779. It shows a crowned figure of Mary with the baby Jesus, which was probably the trigger for the assumption of the patronage of the Assumption of Mary (memorial day: August 15). The two side altars are also in the Baroque style. The left side altar is dedicated to St. Leonhard , the right to St. Sebastian . In addition, a figure of St. Florian in the front area of the church and one of the few figures of St. Brother Konrad without gold plating in the rear area are worth mentioning.

organ

The organ in the parish church was purchased in 1938, the year it was completed. While the single-manual Heinssen organ with eight registers from 1843 was sufficient for the significantly smaller baroque predecessor building, a larger organ has now been purchased from Michael Weise in Plattling . The pneumatic cone chest instrument preserved to this day comprises a total of 17 stops on two manuals and a pedal .

Peal

The four-part bell of the parish church with the tone sequence es 1 –ges 1 –as 1 –b 1 was created in 1950 by the Erdinger bell foundry Karl Czudnochowsky after the previous bells had to be delivered in the Second World War .
