Maria Magdalena Andrejczyk (born March 9, 1996 in Suwałki ) is a Polish athlete who specializes in javelin throwing. She is the European junior javelin champion and took part in the 2016 Olympic Games for Poland .
Athletic career
In 2013 she competed for the first time at a major international event, the World Youth Championships in Donetsk , where she was eliminated in qualifying. In July 2014 Maria Andrejczyk took part in the Junior World Championships 2014 at Hayward Field in Eugene and finished fifth in the javelin throw behind her countrywoman Marcelina Witek . A year later, she took in the Swedish town of Eskilstuna at the European Junior Championships in 2015 in part. In the competition, she secured the junior European championship title ahead of Latvian Anete Kociņa and her countrywoman Aleksandra Ostrowska and achieved a new personal best as well as a junior world high of the year with 59.73 m. In August, she participated in the World Championships in Beijing , where she was eliminated with 56.75 m in qualification .
The Polski Komitet Olimpijski nominated Maria Andrejczyk for throwing the javelin at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . In the qualification she threw a new Polish record with a distance of 67.11 m in her first attempt and also the longest distance in the qualification . In the final she achieved her longest throw with 64.78 m and finished fourth. She missed a medal by three centimeters and with the distance from the qualification she would have become an Olympic champion. Before that, she retired from the European Championships in Amsterdam as 13th in the qualification.
After the Olympics, she was sidelined with a shoulder injury and even underwent an operation in the winter. Through this operation she missed both the 2017 World Championships in London . In 2019 she again took part in the World Championships in Doha , where she was eliminated with 57.68 m in qualification .
