Mariano Suarez
Mariano Suárez Veintimilla (born June 4, 1897 in Otavalo , † October 23, 1980 in Quito ) was an Ecuadorian lawyer, politician of the Partido Conservador Ecuatoriano and from September 3, 1947 to September 16, 1947 president of his country.
Suárez graduated from the Central University of Ecuador , the Licenciatura in Political and Social Sciences and a doctorate in law. He was a member of the National Congress for Imbabura from 1931 to 1935 when he had to go into exile in Chile. In 1935 he became chairman of the Conservative Party through the exile of party leader Jacinto Jijón y Caamaño . From 1939 to 1942 Suárez was again a member of the National Congress for Imbabura , in 1942 also Vice President of Parliament. He took part in the 1944 revolution. In 1946 he was a member of the parliament and later president of the constituent assembly for the province of Pichincha , in 1947 he became vice-president under Velasco Ibarra . After a coup d'état by Carlos Mancheno , who could only stay in power for eight days, Suarez took over the presidency to immediately convene an extraordinary congress to appoint Carlos Julio Arosemena Tola as the new president.
After his brief presidency, Suárez was active in the electoral tribunal and other state institutions in his country.
