Ramón Castro Jijón (born November 15, 1915 in Esmeraldas , † November 1, 1984 in Quito ) was an Ecuadorian rear admiral and as such was chairman of the military junta from July 11, 1963 to March 29, 1966 , which in addition to him from Luis Cabrera Seville , Guillermo Freile Posso and Marcos Gándara existed.

Castro Jijón received his military training in Valparaíso , Chile . When the leaders of the three branches of the army decided to overthrow the government of Carlos Julio Arosemena Monroy , Castro Jijón took over as the oldest member of the junta. After some reforms, the return to democracy was planned for June 1966, which was prevented by rising dissatisfaction and protests of the citizens and violent repression by the military. So on March 30, 1966, in the presence of the former presidents Galo Plaza Lasso and Camilo Ponce Enríquez Clemente Yerovi, the office of president was handed over so that he could call a constituent assembly and democratic elections.
