Alfredo Poveda
Alfredo Ernesto Poveda Burbano (born January 24, 1926 in Pillaro , Tungurahua , † June 7, 1990 in Miami ) was an Ecuadorian military who was dictator of the Republic of Ecuador from January 11, 1976 to August 10, 1979.
Poveda completed his military training in the United States , Argentina and Brazil and was naval commander and military attaché of the navy in Spain , France , Great Britain and Germany . After the coup that brought him to power, he was appointed admiral .
After Guillermo Rodríguez Lara's dismissal , Poveda took over the leadership of the military junta, which consisted of General Guillermo Duran Arcentales and General Luis Leoro Franco . During his term of office, he enacted the 1978 constitution, which made it possible to return to democracy in 1979.
