Carlos Alberto Arroyo del Río (born November 27, 1893 in Guayaquil ; † October 31, 1969 ibid) was an Ecuadorian lawyer and politician of the Partido Liberal Radical Ecuatoriano and from November 17, 1939 to December 10, 1939 and from September 1, 1940 to May 28, 1944 President of his country.

Life

He studied law at the University of Guayaquil and received his doctorate in this subject in 1914. He then worked as a lecturer at the same university. In 1916 he entered parliament for the first time. In 1924 he became a senator. From 1935 he was chairman of the Liberal Party. After the death of Velasco Ibarra's successor Aurelio Mosquera Narváez in 1939, Arroyo del Río took over the presidency of Ecuador for a short time as President of the Senate. In order to run in the presidential elections in 1940, he handed over the presidency to Andrés Córdova . Arroyo was elected President of Ecuador in January 1940.

During the Arroyo del Ríos tenure, the Peruvian invasion fell in 1941 , which meant great losses for Ecuador. In May 1944, Arroyo del Río was overthrown by a young officer revolt in Guayaquil ( La Gloriosa ) against liberal supremacy.
