Marie Herzfeld
Marie Herzfeld (also HM Lyhne and Marianne Niederweiden ; born March 20, 1855 in Güns , Hungary , † September 22, 1940 in Mining ) was an Austrian writer, literary critic and translator. She took an active part in literary and artistic life at the turn of the 20th century and was in lively exchange with colleagues such as Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach , Karl Emil Franzos , Rainer Maria Rilke , Gustav Klimt and Hugo von Hofmannsthal .
life and work
The daughter of a Jewish doctor, baptized Catholic in 1886, first translated Scandinavian literature ( Björnstjerne Björnson , Jonas Lie , Arne Garborg , Knut Hamsun and, as the first, the complete edition by Jens Peter Jacobsen ). Her critical literary essays on contemporary Scandinavian authors have been published in the Frankfurter Zeitung and the Wiener Literaturzeitung, among others .
From the beginning of the 20th century she concentrated on the Italian Renaissance and especially Leonardo da Vinci , on which she published a monograph, among other things, which received attention into the second half of the 20th century.
Herzfeld was Vice President between 1901 and 1919, and later an honorary member of the Vienna Association of Writers and Artists , and in 1904 she received the Bauernfeld Prize .
