Újpesti TE is a Hungarian ice hockey team from Budapest , which was founded in 1955 as the ice hockey section of the Újpesti Torna Egylet ( German: Újpest Turnverein ) and takes part in both the international first league and the Hungarian championship .
history
The ice hockey section was founded in 1955 as Bp. Dósza SE . The name goes back to György Dózsa , who was the leader of the Hungarian peasant uprising . During the Hungarian uprising , the team temporarily changed its name to Újpesti TE . After less than a year, however, the name Újpesti Dózsa SC was introduced in 1957 , which was retained until 1991. Since then the association has been called Újpesti TE again . Újpest won their first national championship title in 1958. The last championship was in 1988. With a total of 13 championship titles, Újpest is only surpassed by record champion Ferencvárosi TC (25). In addition, the club won the Hungarian Ice Hockey Cup nine times (most recently in 1990).

Stadion
The home games of the Újpesti TE will be played today in the Megyeri úti jégcsarnok ( German ice rink Megyeri Street ) in Budapest, which opened in January 2004 . The Megyeri úti jégpálya ice rink, originally opened in 1964, served as a venue until 2003 and was then replaced by a new building.
Women's team
The club's women's team was called UTE Marilyn and took part in the Hungarian women's ice hockey league, the championship of which they won 15 times. In the 2015/16 and 16/17 seasons, she also took part in the women's ice hockey Bundesliga . The team has been playing under the umbrella of MAC Budapest since 2018 .
