Mario Peters

Mario Peters (born April 7, 1944 in Magdeburg ) is a German pianist, organist, jazz musician and composer for film, theater and radio plays.

life and work

Peters learned to play the piano and accordion and studied at the Berlin-Friedrichshain Music School . As keyboard player of the Evgeni-Kantschev-Quintet, with jazz performances in own formations, as (anonymous) harmonium accompanist for Wolf Biermann , as pianist and organist in the Klaus-Lenz-Modern-Soul-Big-Band and from 1974 in Günther-Fischer -Quintet he achieved a wide audience. In addition to his work on the Uschi Brüning live long-playing record and the Manfred Krug LPs Greens (1974) and You're Today Like New (1976), he composed music for documentaries, among others for directors Volker Koepp , Uwe Belz or Andreas Voigt .

With his incidental music for Friedo Solter's Erfurt GDR premiere (February 27, 1982) by Bertolt Brechts Baal , Mario Peters became known as a composer and song interpreter and began to write music for radio plays. His debut in this genre - the music for the first radio play coproduction between the radio of the GDR and the ORF -Wien: Friedemann Schreiter's Villon -stück Lachen wie aus Blut - was awarded the Special Prize of the Critics Jury of the GDR Radio Play Prize in 1983 .

With this project began the collaboration with the Leipzig radio play director Walter Niklaus , who commissioned Peters to produce radio play music for many other projects: Anna Seghers : Grubetsch (1988), Hasenclever / Tucholsky : Christoph Columbus (MDR 1992) or Alexandre Dumas the Elder. Stage music penned by Mario Peters emerged in recent years a. a. for the Theaterhaus Jena , the Volkstheater Rostock , the Schauspielhaus Erfurt and the Mecklenburgische Staatstheater Schwerin , where in 1996 he and Martin Olbertz premiered his Heinrich-Heine- Lied-Evenings With Black Sails and a production by August Strindberg's Miss Julie .
