Mario Toso SDB (born July 2, 1950 in Mogliano Veneto , Treviso Province , Italy ) is an Italian religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Faenza-Modigliana .

Life

Mario Toso joined the order of the Salesians of Don Bosco on August 16, 1967 . He studied Philosophy and Catholic Theology at the Faculty of Theology in Turin and also received a Baccalauréat in Theology. He was ordained a priest on July 22, 1978 .

1978 Toso was at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan in philosophy doctorate . In 1981 he graduated from the Pontifical University of the Salesians with a degree in philosophy and in 1982 a degree in Catholic theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University .

In 1991 he was appointed professor of social and political philosophy at the Pontifical University of the Salesians. In addition to many other offices, he was dean of the Faculty of Philosophy from 1994 to 2000 and rector from 2003 to 2009 .

He also taught social studies at the Pontifical Lateran University and was a consultor for the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace.

On October 22, 2009, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . the titular bishop of Bisarcio and ordered him to succeed Giampaolo Crepaldi Secretary of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace . He was ordained bishop by Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone SDB on December 12th of the same year in St. Peter's Basilica ; Co- consecrators were the President Emeritus of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, Renato Raffaele Cardinal Martino , and the Archbishop of L'Aquila , Giuseppe Molinari .

Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Faenza-Modigliana on January 19, 2015 . The inauguration took place on March 15 of the same year.

In addition to his mother tongue, Toso speaks French, Spanish and English.

Act

Toso is particularly concerned with the nature of the welfare state and is considered a Catholic thought leader. He has published numerous works on the political personalism of the philosophers Jacques Maritain and Emmanuel Mounier as well as on Luigi Sturzo . He was one of the Pope's advisory staff on the preparation of the encyclical Caritas in veritate .

He is committed to the Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice (CAPP) foundation founded by Pope John Paul II in 1991 and is a member of its Scientific Committee.
