Marja Bak Wokke

Marja Wokke (actually Maria Martha Catharina Bak, married Bak; born March 21, 1957 in Bergen , Noord-Holland ) is a former Dutch long-distance runner who specialized in road running.

In 1978 she won the Egmond half marathon with the Dutch record of 1:19:45 h and the Groet uit Schoorl half marathon .

In the following year she defended her titles in Egmond and Schoorl and won the midwinter marathon in 3:08:06 h.

1980 was her most successful year. After her third victory in Egmond, she won the 15 km race of the 20 van Alphen with a national record. She also won again at Groet uit Schoorl and improved her national half marathon record to 1:17:17 h. At the City-Pier-City Loop she set a world best time in the half marathon with 1:13:59 h, which was broken by Joan Benoit in January of the following year . A week later she won the Paderborn Easter run with a national record in the 25 km road run . Then she won the Amsterdam Marathon in 2:40:15 h and the night of Borgholzhausen . A second place in the Nike OTC marathon in 2:32:29 h behind Lorraine Moller was followed by the Dutch championship in the 15 km road race.

In 1981 she defended her titles in Egmond, Alphen, Schoorl and Amsterdam and won the premiere of the Rotterdam Marathon . In 1982 she finished fifth in the Nike OTC Marathon.

Marja Bak is married and lives in Alkmaar , where she runs a naturopathic practice.
