Mark Benedict Coleridge (born September 25, 1948 in Melbourne , Australia ) is Archbishop of Brisbane .

Life

Mark Benedict Coleridge studied theology at the University of Melbourne and received in 1974 by John Anthony Kelly the ordained priest for the Archdiocese of Melbourne . After pastoral work, he studied from 1980 to 1984 at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome and Jerusalem. From 1985 he taught at the Catholic Theological College in Melbourne. In 1988 he received his doctorate in Biblical Exegesis at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome and Jerusalem . From 1998 he worked in the State Secretariat , the Foreign Ministry of the Vatican. In 2001 he was appointed monsignor ( chaplain to His Holiness ).

2002 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To the titular of Theveste and auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Melbourne. The episcopal ordination donated him the Archbishop of Melbourne, Denis Hart ; Co- consecrators were Francesco Canalini , then Apostolic Nuncio in Australia, and George Pell , Archbishop of Sydney . His motto Sanguis et Aqua (“Blood and Water”) comes from the Gospel of John ( Joh 19.34  EU ). In 2006 he was appointed Archbishop of Canberra-Goulburn . On April 2, 2012, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . to the Archbishop of Brisbane. The inauguration took place on May 11 of the same year.

He was a member of the International Commission on English in the Liturgy from 1995 to 1997. In 2002 he was and a member of the Liturgy Commission of the Australian Bishops' Conference, its general secretary in 2003. In 2004 he was appointed chairman of the editorial staff of the Roman Missal, as well as chairman of the international commission for the preparation of an English language edition. He is also Chairman of the Liturgy Commission of the Australian Bishops' Conference.

He is Grand Officer of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem and Grand Prior of the Queensland Lieutenancy of the Order; Joseph John Oudeman was assigned to him as Coadjutor Grand Prior.
