Mark Chao
Mark Chao ( Chinese 趙 又 廷 / 赵 又 廷 , Pinyin Zhào Yòutíng , W.-G. Chao Yu-t'ing ; born September 25, 1984 in Taipei ) is a Taiwanese - Canadian actor and model . He made his acting debut in the TV series Black & White (2009), for which he won the Golden Bell Award for Best Actor. He then had roles in Monga (2010), Caught in the Web (2012), So Young (2013), Detective Dee and the Curse of the Sea Monster (2013), The Chronicles of the Spirit Temple (2015) and the series Eternal Love (2017) .
life and career
Chao is the son of actor and TV presenter Allen Chao . He graduated from the University of Victoria in Canada, where he graduated in sociology and economics .
Mark Chao made his debut as a cop in the 2009 television series Black & White . This role earned him the Best Actor Award at the Golden Bell Awards . The following year Chao appeared in the gangster film Monga , which became one of the most successful Taiwanese film productions. For this, Chao received the award for best newcomer at the Asian Film Awards .
With the following films, Chao also became better known in the People's Republic of China. Love (2012), the next film by Monga director Doze Niu , was the most successful Taiwanese film to date on the mainland. In addition to this Chao also played in First Time at the side of Angelababy and 2012 in a Black - & - White - prequel . He also appeared in Caught in the Web of Chen Kaige to see a successful with audiences and critics production. He was again named best actor for this, at the Huabiao Awards in the category for Hong Kong and Taiwan.
This was followed by a role in Zhao Wei's directorial debut So Young (2013). That same year, he took on the role of Di Renjie in Detective Dee and the Curse of the Sea Monster , the prequel to the first 2011 film by Tsui Hark, from Andy Lau . Also in Black & White: The Dawn of Justice 2014 Chao was seen again in his well-known role. At the 16th Huading Awards he was honored once more as best actor.
In Die Chroniken des Geistertempels (2015), a film adaptation of the Chinese bestselling book series Ghost Blows Out the Light , Mark Chao was given another leading role. Director Lu Chuan's film was a box office hit, but has been criticized for lack of book loyalty. The following year Chao stood in front of the camera for the Sino-French film The Warriors Gate by Matthias Hoene . It was only in 2017 that the actor returned to television after eight years, in the series Eternal Love (2017). Chaos popularity soared in connection with the series. He had another role in the film Till the End of the World , which was partly shot in Antarctica .
Personal
Chao has been married to Chinese actress Gao Yuanyuan since 2014 . They met while filming Caught in the Web .
He is good friends with his detective dee star Lin Gengxin .
