Markus Feldhoff (born August 29, 1974 in Oberhausen ) is a German former soccer player and current coach .

Player career

societies

Feldhoff began his career in the youth of Sportfreunde Königshardt, through whom he came to Bayer 05 Uerdingen . In the 1992/93 season he made his debut in the Bundesliga on matchday 21, March 13, 1993 . In the 1: 3 defeat against Borussia Mönchengladbach , the striker was substituted on for Thomas Adler in the 63rd minute . By the end of the season, Feldhoff had four more games. In the 1-1 draw on the penultimate matchday against Dynamo Dresden , the then young player played for over 90 minutes for the first time. At the end of the season, the club rose from the German upper house. In the following second division year Feldhoff developed into a regular player and scored his first professional goal on August 6, 1993 against Chemnitzer FC . As second in the table , the Uerdinger managed to get back up immediately. Feldhoff also showed his talent in the first division. In the summer of 1995, Bayer 04 Leverkusen secured the services of the attacker.

In Leverkusen Feldhoff had to fight for a regular place with well-known competitors such as Ulf Kirsten , Paulo Sérgio and Rudi Völler . Although he was used in 33 games, more than any other Bayer field player, he was only substituted on 28 times. The following year, Feldhoff scored eight goals this season, his best haul in the Bundesliga, but was mostly overshadowed by Sergio and top scorer Kirsten. Noteworthy this season was a three-pack in the 5-2 win on matchday 21 against FC Bayern Munich . In 1996/97 they celebrated the runner-up championship, the best placement in Feldhoff's playing career. After a moderate season in 1997/98 the striker went to Borussia Mönchengladbach and after a year to VfL Wolfsburg . After he played 18 Bundesliga games for Wolves in 1999/00 , he only played the role of spectator in 2000/01 and was never used. The following year he played two games at the start of the season before he was given over to Energie Cottbus in December . In the months that followed, Feldhoff repeatedly struggled with injuries. The former Bundesliga professional was about to end his career after bad luck with injuries and disappointment in sport when coach Claus-Dieter Wollitz persuaded him to move to KFC Uerdingen 05 in January 2003 . Feldhoff came back regularly there, but also made two dismissals in eight games. In the following year 2003/04 the striker was the top scorer of the league with 22 goals and thus scored almost half of the total goals of his team. Finally he followed Wollitz to VfL Osnabrück and was able to celebrate promotion to the second division with the club in 2007. But it was no longer used there. On October 26, 2007 Feldhoff played his last game for the VfL reserve team.

National team

Feldhoff played 13 games for the German U-21s and scored five goals.

Coaching career

In December 2006 Feldhoff took over the coaching position at the Dinslaken regional league team TV Jahn Hiesfeld , which he could not save from relegation to the district league. Immediately before the start of the 2007/08 season, he decided to give up the post again in order to be able to concentrate fully on his active career after a long injury break. In January 2008, however, he had to end his career as a professional footballer due to another knee injury. In the 2008/09 season he was coach of SSVg Velbert , but resigned from his position in October 2008.

From December 2008 Feldhoff was an assistant trainer at VfL Osnabrück as part of an internship contract that ran until June 30, 2010.

For the 2009/10 season, Feldhoff found a job at Energie Cottbus . He followed Claus-Dieter Wollitz from Osnabrück to Cottbus and prematurely terminated his employment with VfL. After Wollitz 'resignation, Feldhoff took over the team as interim trainer on December 8, 2011 until the winter break.

On October 12, 2016, Bundesliga club Werder Bremen announced that Feldhoff had been appointed assistant coach. He completed the team around head coach Alexander Nouri and his assistant Florian Bruns . With the dismissal of Nouri a year later, Werder also parted with Feldhoff.

At the end of September 2018, the second division FC Ingolstadt 04 hired Feldhoff as an assistant coach, where he worked again with Nouri. After eight games without a win (five defeats and three draws), both were sacked after two months on November 26, 2018.

On November 27, 2019, he and Nouri became assistant coach of Jürgen Klinsmann at the first division club Hertha BSC , the coaching team should initially work in Berlin until the end of the 2019/20 season . From the 22nd matchday onwards, Feldhoff assisted Nouri in four Bundesliga games after Klinsmann resigned as head coach. Nouris and Feldhoff's commitment ended at the beginning of April 2020 with the engagement of Bruno Labbadia as the new head coach.
